Alaska South Slope 12; Teller K54 ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
There are four main northwestern Alaska towns which are serviced by Alaska Airlines, and from which local flights spread out. The northernmost is Barrow. Southwest of Barrow is Kotzebue, then Nome, and the furthest south is Bethel (not yet made). This is the fifth in a series for local flights from Nome, and it is on the coast around 55 miles east of Wales and 55 miles northwest of Nome. There are two other airfields around a large lagoon that is almost totally enclosed from the sea, and Teller is on the easten shore, just 15 miles east of Port Clarence and 5 miles southeast of Brevig Mission, both already posted. Teller has a populaton of around 230, down from the 5,000 or so in the early 1900's after the Bluestone Placer Mine struck gold. Tollef Brevik was a Lutheran missionary who was both a pastor and teacher for the Inuit in the area from 1894 onward, travelling from community to community but based in Teller, where the Teller Mission Church was later renamed the Brevig Mission. The name was later appropriated and used for the curent village of that name; he was surely very well regarded by the local population. Unusually, it is possible to drive from Nome to Teller in summer, on a dirt road. Conversely, the road that shows in FS9 to the north towards Brevig Mission (courtesy of Ultimate Terrain) does not in fact exist except in winter, when it is estabished on the snow by the tyre tracks of users. The airstrip is southeast and 2 miles by road from the main part of the village on the spit, with a gravel runway 02-25 which is 3,500 feet of gravel. The AI is the usual for this area, Bering and ERA with some GA and cargo by Everts.

Bryce Canyon National Park (KBCE), Utah, Photo-Scenery ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
Bryce Canyon National Park (KBCE), Utah, Photo-Scenery (FS9 & FSX)

Despite its name, Bryce Canyon is not actually a canyon that was formed by a river, but rather a giant natural cliff shaped through erosion by wind, water, and ice. Bryce is distinctive due to its geological formations, delicate and colorful pinnacles called hoodoos that are up to 200ft high. The bizarre forms and red, orange and white colors of the rocks provide spectacular views. Unfortunately the hoodoos are too small for the elevation mesh in flight simulator. But you can enjoy the colors and shape of the cliffs. The cliffs in main region of the park, just south of the airport are partly covered by snow. But on the southern and western part of the plateau you can enjoy them free of snow. Bryce Canyon is named after the Mormon pioneer Ebenezer Bryce who settled in this area in the 1850s. It was designated as a national park in 1928.

Bryce Canyon Airport (KBCE) just handles small aircraft on a daily basis. But is was actually built to handle larger aircraft in case of emergency. And so on Oct.6th 2000 an American Airlines MD-82 from Denver to Los Angeles made a successful emergency landing after reporting smoke in the cockpit and a loss of cabin pressure.
High resolution versions of this scenery for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads)are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/CNY_South2West4.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. Thanks to Joop Mak for providing a custom AFCADs that correct airport layouts so that they align with the photo-textures! They are available here: www.blueskyscenery.com/AFCADs.html . Carleton Place airfield CNR6 near Ottawa in Canada, a REVISED version ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
Carleton Place was modelled a year ago and posted. This version has a new grass background which is more realistic and also supports winter snow. This is the first in an updated series of sceneries around Ottawa, and it replaces entirely the previous version, which should be deleted.

CYAZ Tofino, B.C. for Version 2 ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
CHANGES IN V2: 1. The trees I used in V1 use the hard winter textures when they should be using the regular winter textures. This results in the added trees being covered in snow while the rest of the trees are not. It looked too weird. I replaced them with a different set of trees. The new trees will sometimes appear darker than the default trees due to shading, but they will at least display the correct seasonal textures. It's not perfect, but it's an improvement. 2. The default windsock ended up unders the added trees, so I moved it. V1 of this scenery is not required.

CYCE - James T. Field Memorial at Centralia, Ontario, Canada V1 updated ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
This is an updated version of the original post, revising and adding to AI, parking, rear fences, paths from apron to hangar doors, etc. The Lockheed Constellation was downloaded from the web site California Classics, and with the knowledge and permission of Tom Gibson the modified plane is included here complete with its Air Alaska textures and a modified .cfg file so that it will imitate a lightly loaded plane and squeeze the landing run to suit the runway length of 10-28. The airfield is in southern Ontario, 55 miles west of Kitchener and 25 miles northwest of London, close to the shore of Lake Huron. The airfield is ex-military and was previously listed as Huron Airpark before being officially named the James T. Field Memorial; for me it will always be Huron Airpark. The field is owned by Goderich Aircraft Inc, a company that fits out aircraft with new interiors including instrumentation, seating, and paint schemes. Their main customers are business jet owners, which is why the AI here is oriented towards Lear etc. There are now two runways in use, the third being closed and marked as such (though still listed in the AI for you to select one to land on). The main runway is 10-28 and just over 5,000 feet. The second runway is 16-34 and 4,400 feet, with only identification numbers and centreline markings. There appear to be no apron lights, taxiway lights or runway signage currently installed. There is a small club hangar (and club room) adjacent to the main apron at the southern end, with GA parking, and there are two large hangars (one new) used by Goderich at the northern end. The remainder of the original large hangars are now in use as light industrial units unrelated to aviation, the most obvious of which is a garbage collection company with numerous parked garbage trucks. One of the hangars adjacent to the apron does incorporate what appears to be a new set of hangar doors (the red one) but it is unclear if this is actually in use for a plane. The control tower is no longer in use, and there is only limited snow clearance in the winter by Goderich; presumably they only clear it when they need to use it themselves.

CYKF - Kitchener, Regional Muni of Waterloo - Ontario Canada ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
The town of Kitchener is in southern Ontario, 40 miles southwest of Toronto. The population is just over half a million, including the adjoining Cambridge and Waterloo which are known locally as the Tri Cities. The Kitchener name was adopted in 1916, replacing the former "City of Berlin". The airport is on the northeastern side of the town, with the main runway aligned 08-26 and just over 7,000 feet of asphalt 150 feet wide, lit, with PAPI at both ends and approach lighting and ILS on 26. The second runway is aligned 14-32 and is 4,100 feet long, lit and with PAPI at both ends; right hand circuits for 32. The airport is being steadily enlarged and improved, with new hangars for rental, operators, and maintenance companies. The largest and most visible presence is the training operation located just off the southwest end of taxiway A, where there are 14 Cessna 172, 2 Cessna 152, 2 Piper Seminole, and others. These are represented in the AI. There are morning and evening scheduled flights by Westjet to Calgary and American Eagle to Chicago, also in the AI. To the southwest, past taxiway C, there is GA parking; request taxi to what is named here "southwest parking" where there are spaces on both grass and asphalt. To the southeast, along a taxiway off the southeast corner of the main apron, are mainly operators and maintenance facilities. This version of CYKF includes the new(ish) terminal, the first of the new central rental hangars alongside the new taxiway and access road, and the very new large hangar off taxiway C, but not the new airport services building (fire and snow clearance) that is off to the southeast of taxiway A, and not the new car park to the south of the airport access road. So an uncertain and possibly historically innacurate date, but with the correct taxiway lighting and signage, and building textures from photographs.

CYQS - St Thomas - Ontario, Canada *V1* ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
St Thomas is a town in Ontario around 12 miles south of London and less than 10 miles from the north shore of Lake Erie, with a population of just under 40,000. The airport (actually more of an airfield, as there are no scheduled flights) has three runways typical of an ex-military field, with one remaining hangar from RCAF flight training times in the 1940's, and the east-west runway now extended to just over 5,000 feet. The main presence at CYQS is a company in the crop seeding and spraying business over a wide area of Ontario; as a result there are several AT-802 planes based there which are included here as AI planes and also as parked scenery objects. To the west of the original apron area there are added taxiways to cater for a herd of new individual hangars wearing orange and white uniforms. There is fuel, runway lighting on 09-27, taxiway lights, visitor parking on the edge of the apron, and maintenance companies in the large hangars, plus a flight training group. A small terminal building sits quietly between hangars, waiting. Ditches along the road and around much of the airfield provide separation, which is why the fences are not continuous. I presume that the warning balls on the electricity cables were found to be necessary to persuade pilots not to land there; probably ski planes in winter, they tend to land anywhere so long as it has snow on it. This V1 version includes previous updates.

CYVQ - Norman Wells - Northwest Territories, Canada ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:
Norman Wells is the last of a series of airfields that are along (or close to) the Mackenzie River and in the Northwest Territories. It is 290 miles southeast of Inuvik and just 40 miles northwest of Tulita. The town growth was accelerated by the discovery of oil in the 1930's and the building of a small refinery in 1937, which is included here; there are now around 840 folks living in the town. The airport is adjacent to the town and has just under 6,000 feet of asphalt runway. North Wright Airways is headquartered there and this is reflected in the AI, which is for all of the newly-posted Mackenzie River postings. There is also helicopter AI, Canadian North, First Air, and there are GA flights. There is a mandatory frequency and the Norman Wells tower is manned 24 hours a day so you will follow atc instructions. In real life the terminal is on two levels; this steep change in terrain level is not possible to achieve in FS9 so although I made it as a two level terminal (ready for the FSX version?) it is here modified into a single level building. There are several "taxiways" which lead to the runway but are without hold short markings. These have been shown but are not included as AI routes. The helicopters presumably hover-taxi to the runway across grass (and snow) in real life; the AI helicopter will taxi on wheels. Note that at mixed-use airports planes and helicopters all follow the same rules of procedure.

Death Valley Badwater landclass ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
FS2004 Death Valley Badwater landclass (works probably in FS2002 too) A small landclass addon for Death Valley, California. Badwater is the lowest place in USA and there is a white, dry saltlake across the bottom of the valley. I used EZ-landclass and year-around snow for this, it stays white even in the hottest sun !

Denver (KDEN), Colorado, Photo-Scenery ZipDive!  Download

Images related to this file:

File Description:

Denver (KDEN), Colorado, Photo-Scenery for FS9 & FSX.

This package covers Denver, the capital of Colorado which is also nicknamed Mile-High City because its elevation is one mile (5.280 ft). The sixth RW (16R/34L) of Denver Int'l. Airport (KDEN) is the longest commercial RW in the US with a length of 16.000ft. This allows fully loaded B747's to take off in Denvers mile-high altitude during hot summer days, when density altitudes can approach 9.000(!) ft.

KDEN is a major hub for United Airlines and the headquarters for Frontier Airlines. The airports distinctive white tent-like fabric roof is designed to be reminiscent of the snow-covered peaks of the Rocky Mountains which you can see on approach or departure. Other important airports covered by this region are Centennial Airport (KAPA), Buckley AFB (KBKF) and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (KBJC). Extends my Mt.Evans/Georgetown package to the east and provides another 3.500 sq km in 4.7m/pix quality.

High resolution versions for FS9 and FSX (much sharper, but larger and multiple downloads) are available at www.blueskyscenery.com/GNB_SouthEast.html . The screenies are taken from the high-res versions, so expect this version to be slightly more blurry. YourDonation@Work: Dedicated to Mark and Charles. Thanks!
