P-40 Royal Egyptian Air Force

File Description:
This is a repaint for the A2A P-40B, representing a Tomahawk MkIIB of the Royal Egyptian Air Force. The REAF received six ex-RAF Tomahawk IIB's in april 1943, and a further six on october 1943. Tey were originally assigned to 6 squadron (replacing Hurricanes), but the unit was renumbered to become 17 sqn. They were replaced by Hurricanes in 1945, and later used as trainers, possibly as late as 1947. Repaint by Jan Kees Blom, based on the paintkit by Martin Catney.

P-40 Tomahawk IIB AM392 LD-W "Nux Vomica"

File Description:
Tomahawk MkIIB AM392 of 250 Squadron, flown by Australian pilot Sgt Bob Whittle, Egypt August-October 1941. "Nux Vomica" (deadly poison) was the name given to this aircraft by Sgt Whittle, who used it to shoot down a Me109. The aircraft was later used by the SAAF until it was struck off charge on 1 july 1943. Repaint for the A2A P40 Tomahawk by Jan Kees Blom, using the paintkit by Martin Catney.

P-47D 324th FG/316th FS #77 "Betty"

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the Shockwave Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing P-47D-23-RA 42-27978 "Betty", an aircraft of the 316th FS/324th FG. It was involved in a landing accident on 21/01/1945 at Luneville, France, while being piloted by Richard Weitz. Apparently it was repaired, because it was destroyed after an emergency landing due to an engine fire on 09/03/1945, while being piloted by Harry Hershberger. P-47D 334th FS "Miss Plainfield"

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing P-47C 42-7945 flown by Lieutenant Spiros 'the Greek' Pisanos of the 334th FS, 4th FG, Finschhafen, New Guinea, 1944. Born in Athens, Greece, in the suburb of Kolonos, on 10 November 1919, Spiros Nicholas "Steve" Pisanos, the son of a subway motorman, came to America in April 1938, as a crew member on a Greek Merchant ship. Arriving in Baltimore, Maryland and unable to speak English, Steve found his way to New York City, where he worked in bakeries and restaurants. As he earned money he started flying lessons at Floyd Bennett Field. In August 1940, he setled i Plainfield, New Jersey, his adopted home town, and continued flying lessons at Westfield Airport. He earned a private pilot's license and, although still a Greek national, in October 1941 he joined the British Royal Air Force sponsored by the Clayton Knight Committee in New York City. Steve began his military flight training at Polaris Flight Academy in Glendale, California. Upon graduation, Pilot Officer Pisanos was transferred to England where he completed RAF Officers Training School at Cosford, England and OTU (Operational Training Unit) at Old Sarum Aerodrome in Salisbury. Pilot Officer Pisanos was posted to the 268 Fighter Squadron at Snailwell Aerodrome in Newmarket flying P-51A's. He later transferred to the 71 Eagle Squadron, one of the three Eagle squadrons in the RAF, comprised of American volunteers flyin Spitfires at Debden RAF Aerodrome. When the USAAF 4th Fighter Group absorbed the American members of the Eagle Squadrons in September and October 1942, Pilot Officer Pisanos was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Forces. On 3 May 1943, Lt. Pisanos was naturalized as an American citizen in London, England, becoming the first individual in American history to be naturalized outside the Continental United States. Flying his first mission in his P-47 "Miss Plainfield" out of Debden Aerodrome with the 334th Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Group, Lt. Pisanos, "The Flying Greek," scored his first victory on 21 May 1943, when he downed a German FW-190 over Ghent, Belgium. by 1 January 1944 he had become an ace with five confirmed victories. On 5 March 1944, he obtained his 10th victory and while returning from that B-17 escort mission to Limoges and Bordeaux, France, Steve experienced engine failure in his P-51B and crash-landed south of Le Havre. For six months he evaded the Germans and worked with the French Resistance and the American OSS sabotaging the German war machine in occupied France. Lt. Pisanos returned to England on 2 September 1944, following the liberation of Paris. Upon returning to the United States, Captain Pisanos was assigned to the Flight Test Division at Wright Field, Ohio. He attended the USAF Test Pilot School and subsequently served as a test pilot at Wright Field and Muroc Lake, California, testing the YP-80 jet aircraft. During his career in the USAF, Steve graduated from the University of Maryland, attended the Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College. P-47D 334th FS "the Deacon" & "Missouri Kid"

File Description:
This folder contains two repaints for the Shockwave Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing two aircraft of the 4th FG /334th FS. Included are: 1) 41-6484 QP-L "the Missouri Kid - Sho-Me", the first aircraft assigned to Ralph 'Kid' Hofer. He scored only one P-47 victory, but in a different aircraft. QP-L crashed on 2 december 1943, killing it's pilot, F/O John P. McNabb. 2) 41-6576 QP-J "the Deacon", one of the P-47's flown by Major Howard D. 'Deacon' Hively. He baled out of this P-47 on 15 june 1943 into the Channel, after being shot up by fighters over St.Nazaire. He was picked up by an ASR launch and continued to fly for the 334th FS. File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing P-47D-23-RA 42-8066 "Sweetwater Swatter" an aircraft of the 340th FS/ 348th FG, based in Papua New Guinea. The aircraft, probably the oldest surviving P-47D, is currently undergoing restoration in Australia.

P-47D 342nd CG/ 33rd FS #27 "Big Bastard"

File Description:
This folder contains a repaint for the A2A Wings of Power III P-47D Thunderbolt, representing P-47D-22 42-26086 of the 342nd CG, 33rd FS, Iceland, June 1944. It made a forced landing at Patterson field on 11/6/1944 with Lt Clifford Martin piuloting. It was destroyed in a crash near Keflavik on 20/5/1945. Its pilot, Eugene S.
