File Description: In August 1926 it was determined that the facilities at Kelly Field and Brooks Field in Texas (which had been erected for training purposes in World War I) were insufficient for proper training. During the design stage a 1st Lt Harold Clark designed a model four-quadrant airfield having a circular layout of facilities between parallel runways which allowed full-time operations without having to overfly the hangars and base buildings as at Kelly and Brooks. Named Randolph Field the base soon became the primary training facility for all Army Air Corp and then Air Force Pilots. Currently housing the 12th Flying Training Wing providing instructor pilot and refresher training in the T-6A Texan II, T-38C Talon and T-1A Jayhawk.
