File Description: YNSM Norseman - The default airstrip is in the middle of a lake but does not properly represent the dry lake bed. I cannot dry out the whole of Lake Lefroy but this representation looks a whole lot better. Norseman is at the crossroads to everywhere. The discovery of a rich gold reef by Laurie Sinclair in 1894 as a result of his horse 'Norseman' kicking a piece of gold bearing quartz, caused a town to be established and named in honour of the horse. Although the main industry is goldmining there are also vast sheep properties East of Norseman. The mine flies workers in daily from Kalgoorlie to the north. Norseman Gold Plc operates Australia's longest continuously running gold mining operation, which produces 80,000 ounces of gold per annum. Gypsum is also mined from Lake Lefroy.
