"Twenty Thousand Miles in a Flying-boat", by Sir Alan Cobham ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
In 1927, Sir Alan Cobham, pioneer of aerial refuelling and adventuring aviator, undertook a survey flight around Africa. He was accompanied by his wife, Gladys, and four crewmen: Worrall, the second pilot; Green and Conway, engineers; and Bonnett, cameraman. The aircraft was a Short S.5 Singapore MkI, a twin-engined, single-fin, open cockpit version of the later four-engine, triple-finned, closed-cockpit Singapore MkIII which entered RAF service. There was only ever one MkI and when Cobham completed his journey it was returned to the Air Ministry, who had loaned it to Sir Alan. The adventurers departed Rochester, on the River Medway, in the morning of 17th. November 1927 and returned in May of 1928,after a trip of over 20,000 air-miles and one which involved numerous trials and tribulations, delays and frustrations. The book, published in 1931, provides in-depth detail of the flight so what I've done with this package is to create a blog that will provide updates for each day of the journey undertaken by Cobham and crew. To relive this epic, all you need to do is to go here:- http://henrycrun.spaces.live.com/default.aspx Remember...NO nav-aids or comms! :)

"Bolero 2" - The proposed flight of "Glacier Girl" to Duxford Air Show, June 2007. ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
This package represents the *proposed* route and timetable to be flown by P-38 "Glacier Girl" and P-51 "Miss Velma" on their trip to the United Kingdom in June 2007. Both aircraft were to appear at the Flying Legends Air Show at Duxford on the weekend of 7th. - 8th. July 2007, with "Miss Velma" remaining in Britain with her new owners. This trip - 'Bolero 2' (the original WW2 operations were named 'Bolero') - was to see the P-38 finally complete its delivery flight some 65 years after it left the USA. However, "Glacier Girl" suffered a major engine problem and whilst "Miss Velma" went on alone, the P-38 had to remain behind in the USA and never made it to the Duxford Air Show. Installation instructions are in the ReadMe.

1960 - Delivery flight of Viscount VH-RMK - Omaha to Melbourne, the long way round. ZipDive!  Download

File Description:
This FS2004 (FS9) flight replicates the route taken by Ansett-ANA's Viscount VH-RMK (previously Continental Airlines' N241V) when it was delivered - by an Ansett crew - from Omaha, Nebraska to Essendon airport, Melbourne. The crew consisted of Cpt. C. Lister (in command), Cpt. D. Bull, First Officer J. Farrell, Navigator W. Kennedy and Flt. Engineer J. Howard. The flight commenced on the morning of September 17th. 1960 and took 12 days, the route being across the continental United States to Chicago, thence to Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Scotland, United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, UAR, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Phillipines, Indonesia and finally Australia. You may wonder why they took the "long way round" rather than ferry the aircraft across the Pacific route: very simply, the Viscount did not have the range required to safely transit the distances between the only refuelling points available down through the Pacific Ocean. A ReadMe with the simple installation instructions and historical information is included.
