File Description:
From 1 January 1962 till July 1963 the Dutch operator Martin's Air Charter (MAC) had a de Havilland DH-114 Heron Srs 2 in its fleet. The first year Heron PH-VLA flew for the Paris-based European branch of the New York Herald Tribune on a daily service (except Sunday) to Geneva, Zurich and Frankfurt for the distribution of newspapers. On 1 April 1963 PH-VLA was short-term leased to Lufthansa for the service Frankfurt-Stuttgart. However this lease came to a premature end when on 1 May 1963 the Heron was severely damaged by a tractor while at Frankfurt. After the incident the Heron was sold to England.
